Butterfly Drills – Single-Armed Fly Drill

Butterfly Single-Armed Fly Drill

The purpose of the Single-Armed Fly drill is to help swimmers focus on the aspects of the swimming stroke which involves pull, recovery, stroke rhythm and breathing. It also helps reduce muscular fatigue and tired arms. When performed at its best, the drill will help swimmers focus more on developing proper technique and excellent muscle memory.

  • Swim in butterfly stroke with one arm at a time.
  • The arms should be stretched out in front forming a number 11.
  • Retain the same procedure done in butterfly stroke from the arm angle to the kick.

For this drill to be performed properly, you need to make sure that you are doing procedures that look like a single-armed butterfly and not a single-armed freestyle.
